The Stacker Model 2120

The stacker is essentially a punch and die set and a high pressure laminator combined. Stacking registration is provided by a system of pins that engage holes in the mylar. There are several unique features that allow control over the way the punch enters the die. The machine can be set up to allow the punch to enter and shear both the ceramic and the mylar carrier, or it can be stopped after cutting the ceramic, but before cutting the carrier. The later case is desirable because it can make the operation of stripping off the carrier easier. Precision stops are provided for the purpose of stopping the die at the correct point.
The die is equipped with a floor which supports a removable steel plate. The layers of ceramic are deposited on this plate which is referred to as a pallet. Ten pallets are supplied so that more than one build up can be stacked while another is being cut etc.
Electric heaters are incorporated into the punch and die floor so that heat can be used to improve the transfer characteristics of the materials. Separate thermostatic control will be provided for these heated surfaces.
After the ceramic has been punched into the die, pressure must be applied to affect the transfer of the conductor/ceramic off the carrier tape. The pressure for the transfer is provided by an air over oil system. The duration of the pressure cycle is set by an electronic control. Three tons per square inch pressure is available in the die.
Safety and OSHA requirements are addressed by the use of Two Hand No Tie-Down and a light curtain. This requires the operator to use both hands to actuate the machine thereby keeping hands out of the press.
Like the hole punch, the accuracy of the punch to die clearance is critical. A ball bearing die set is used with heavy die posts to assure rigidity. Two die posts rather than four will be used so that the operator will have easy access into the die for loading and unloading.
The stacking machine applies enough force to adhere the sheets for stripping. To fully laminate the sheets about 2 tons per square inch must be applied. No further lamination is generally required.
The stacker / laminator is mounted in a floor standing welded steel bench with work surface on either side of the die set.
